Dear Members,
Invoices for the 2012 season have been mailed to all current members. If you do not see your invoice, please contact us at inquiries@fountaingreenswimclub.com.
You will notice the $50.00 assessment on the invoice which is due at the same time as the rest of the balance. Please help keeping your balance low by paying on time.
Here is the statement we sent out via email and have had posted for the past month on the above subject.
Our club has relied on a water treatment plant located in the back of the property for almost 40 years. The plant is close to the end of its expected life and we need to plan on how to handle our waste water both in the short term and long term. Failure of the current system would have very negative ramifications to the club (including closing of the facility) so immediate action is required. The Board of Directors and our consultant have been in conversations with both the county and the state environmental departments in order to understand our options and work towards approval for any new water handling plans. It became clear that both the state and the county are pushing us towards public sewer hook up and any efforts to skirt that activity would be met with significant push-back and risk.
The advantages to public sewer are significant as once we are connected, we will have a permanent solution that will provide ongoing water handling with regular and minimal costs. The downside, however, is that the connection is going to be very expensive based on initial conversations with the county. Just to hook up the line will be over $40,000 and the total expense including bond fees, hook up fees, engineering and construction costs etc. will be over $110,000. We are working towards final costs and schedules as well as several options on how to pay for this one-time expense. It became clear that some of this extraordinary cost will need to be absorbed by an assessment for all members in 2012. The Board of Directors have approved an assessment of $50.00 per family for all members in 2012. This includes all current members, new members, and Board members. There will be no exceptions. This charge will only absorb approximately 25% of the costs but we hope that we can handle the balance of the costs from our cash reserves.. The board reserves the right to apply a similar charge in 2013, if needed, but rest assured we will do all we can to keep this to a one time fee.
All members will see this charge on their 2012 annual dues invoice. It is due at the same time as your normal (and still relatively low) membership dues which need to be paid by February 1, 2012. Fees paid after that will be charged a late fee as normal. Please see the details on your invoice which you should expect to see at the very beginning of January.
I hope you understand the financial position we are in as a club. The Board is anxious to maintain the safe and healthy environment that you expect at Fountain Green Swim Club. We are confident that this is the right course of action to take overall and it will lead to many more years of having a beautiful and desirable swim club! , Please contact us at inquiries@fountaingreenswimclub.com should you have any questions or comments . We welcome your feedback.
Sincerely,
Tony Paxton
